I am a person who shows self-respect

How to lose weight. The process of how I decided how to approach this, and how it can be used for change.

67kg

More than I have weighed for as long as I can remember, and enough that my clothes don’t fit.

In deciding I want to weigh less I have looked at ideas from a different angle.

“Pound the Stone” has no focus on weight or dieting. It’s a novel about a teenage boy playing basketball, but does have some great ideas for how you approach change.

There is an emphasis on discipline, small steps, and to continue “regardless of your temporary feelings”. It highlights being in the moment, the present, and how you improve yourself.

So, I started with just writing out some of the ideas from the book . The following were all easy to write

Pound the stone regardless of temporary feelings

Taking little steps

Being fully present

Flow state

Then from James Clear “Atomic Habits”

I am a person who ______________(insert future self)

Found the resistance!

As soon as I started to think about this I went and tidied the kitchen, and then noticed that the house is messy, and that I should take a bag downstairs. Anything, except the question. Sure sign of resistance.

For an explanation on how to use resistance to guide you look here.

I took this sentence, sat down, listened to NikeRunClub Speed Run and started thinking about fitness and just writing what came to mind when I wrote:

“I am a person who”

I am a life coach, I have control over my life, and then a quote by Arnold Schwarzenegger came to mind. He described how a well built physique shows patience, work ethic and self-respect. Self-respect was the word that jumped out.

I am a person who shows self-respect by having a body I respect.

Which shows me and others (that feels uncomfortable so should probably stay there) that I respect myself.

The key to this is not whether I should respect myself based on size, but which words and ideas worked for me in thinking about a change I want to make.

By continuing to probe them, I can come up with the real why I want to do something.

The little steps I want to follow are really easy to define

  • No alcohol in June

  • Train 7 days a week including 2 track days with my friend, 2 stretching yoga days, and 3 running days

  • Watching portion size

To measure, these I can track the training in a running journal, and track food on YouAte app.

The end of June goal is to weigh less (no measure in mind) and be fitter (measured on how it feels)

Reward is to buy some summer trainers.

And writing it down sure puts on the accountability
