I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee

Carly Simon “You’re so vain”. I don’t know why the line

“I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee”

never caught me until now. Also, I didn’t know Mick Jagger was on backing vocals - re-listened for that!

Used to describe the confusing aspects of life and love, and when you can’t see clearly.

“I had some dreams”

The future we imagine. Our hopes and expectations.

They come into focus when they are not turning out as expected. This is relevant whatever age and applies to life and love. Whether the hopes are for yourself, or your relationship with another. How to adapt?

Sometimes the idea of our future can stop us seeing the present.

These are the clouds

The clouds represent the blocks. Clouds may be thoughts, emotions or environment.

“When we are full of our thoughts we have no ability to take on new learning and respond to reality as it presents itself in the actual moment. It is not about getting rid of our experience and wisdom, but rather not letting it get in the way of seeing things from a fresh perspective.” Not Knowing, D’Souza.

Which brings us to the coffee.

The coffee is the present. Seeing coffee as it truly is. Free from distraction. Bold, clear, short focused expresso. Simple and beautiful. Seeing the present clearly.

The dreams, clouds and coffee can work together.

Dreams that are of ideas or hopes to be present, to appreciate the simple, how what is beautiful, let go of that you no longer need, and all with the gentlest of touches.

Clouds that are part of your coffee, that complement, give texture, colour and frame the coffee. That work together with the present and future, rather than obscure or confuse.

Approaching your cup with curiosity, what will you learn?
