Noticing the little things
Noticing the little things.
The detail.
As a coach I often explore metaphors as a way of seeing something from a different angle. The imagination of using a different object to describe something can lead to insight about yourself or what you want.
To improve my skill and ability to use this way of thinking, and be creative in setting a scene, I’ve tried to focus on the detail of what’s around me. To study an area as an artist, or a child. To pay attention to all the detail, the little stones, the sound of the stream, what noise different parts of the path make as you walk. To then use words to describe these parts of the whole experience can lead to more questions on your observations.
What crunches when I walk? Pine cones and small stones
Where do the birds sing, and where are they quiet? They sing where the path is rocky, but not where the path is open and grassy.
What’s moving, and what’s staying still? The water, the thin branches, and the grass moves. The tree trunks and the rocks do not.
The simple moment that caught my attention was a small ball of silver moss hanging on a branch. As the wind bounced the moss like a Christmas bauble on a tree.
To observe in detail also reminded me to be present, mindful and peaceful.
What does noticing the detail bring to you?
